2023 Spring Art Festival

Our 3rd Annual Spring Art Festival Was Another Huge Success

Video Credit: Travel St. Lawrence NY

Our Spring Art Festival is always a great time, but this year we had even more fun. More artists, a great auction to benefit the Museum, food, music, and, from Jim Murray and the art students at Morristown Central School, a fairy trail with hidden treasures!

Thank you to our artists, vendors, visitors and volunteers for another fantastic festival.
We hope to see you again in future 2023 events and beyond!

Meet The Artists

Deb Monteith

Picture
Catch painter and jeweler Deb Monteith at The Gateway Museum's 3rd Annual Spring Art Festival! This year, Deb has added something new called Art on Glass, hand-painted impressions that incorporate her love of the river. Deb adds these works to the jewelry she creates from aluminum, copper, and sand. At the Art Festival, Deb will help children and adults maneuver marbles in paint to produce a unique piece of art for each participant!

Mary Ann Evans

Picture
If you haven't met Mary Ann Evans of Mare's Wares, you are in for a treat! Mary Ann is a potter and teacher with over 25 years' of experience creating beautiful, colorful, and functional pottery made from stoneware, raku, and porcelain. Meet her at the Art Festival at the Red Barn Preserve. There will be so much to experience!

Pam Morley

Picture
We are thrilled to present local artist Pam Morley, a self-taught artist specializing in oil painting and other paint mediums. Her portraits, landscapes, and still lifes can be found in Florida and New York galleries.

Mark Schwartz

Picture
Mark Schwartz spent ten years as a professional wooden boat restorer in Clayton and now puts his skills to work creating little boats made from big boats and rustic furniture made from trees that grow on his property near Redwood. At the Art Festival, he will demonstrate the use of a shaving horse and invite people to try it! facebook.com/Red-Woods

Melanie Connor

Picture
Melanie Connor began River House Soap 13 years ago, featuring natural vegan homemade soaps and lotions from pure organic ingredients. She also makes soaps from beer and goat's milk! She expanded with Radiant Gem Jewelry, where she works in her studio along the river. At the festival, she will offer all the chance to paint acorns for seasonal decor and fun!

Cheri Ramie

Picture
Cheri Ramie is all about designer bags - her upscale designs from new and recycled textiles. Cheri is from Ogdensburg but now lives in Cicero. Find her on Facebook at RiverMarieDesigns.

Pam Winchester

Picture
Meet another one of our featured artists! Pam Winchester is a mixed media artist who is passionate about creating and teaching art. She is currently painting two murals for the Hammond Historical Museum.
Pam's work has been shown at the Frederick Remington Museum, the Iva Smith Memorial Gallery, TAUNY, and more.

Dot and Jeff Swift

Picture
The creations of Dot and Jeff Swift are both beautiful and useful. You'll find wooden boxes, segmented bows of various species, painted scenes on handsaws, ornaments, bowls, and plaques. Jeff has been woodworking for more than 17 years, and Dot has been a painter since she was a child.

Laura Yehle

Picture
Laura Yehle grows the flowers she presses using both a traditional flower press and a microwave. She covers metal rings of various sizes with mulberry or rice paper that she first paints white. She also creates pressed flower lampshades.

Ann French

Picture
Ann has taught basket weaving and jewelry making for nearly 40 years and now focuses her time on creating unusual and beautiful baskets. She has shown her work widely in galleries and art shows. After showing at the Spring Art Festival in 2022, she was excited to return this year.

Jack Taylor

Picture
Jack Taylor has carved wood for 26 years. His most popular work is a "comfort bird", with extremely smooth surfaces and a groove under the tail for rubbing during distress. You can find Jack in his shop carving, out on the trail hunting for wood or teaching others to see how a piece of wood can become art.
